The Woljeon Museum of Art Icheon presents its second permanent exhibition of 2026, Perspectives on Landscape: Woljeon Jang U-seong and Contemporary Korean Painting.
The landscapes depicted in paintings are more than representations of the nature and spaces unfolding before our eyes. For an artist, landscape is a way of seeing the times, a means of understanding life, and an artistic subject through which personal sensations and thoughts are expressed. Throughout the long course of history, the ways in which artists have looked at mountains, waters, and landscapes have continued to evolve, reflecting the lives and philosophies of those who lived in each era.
This exhibition brings together landscape paintings by Woljeon Jang U-seong, a pioneering figure who opened new horizons for Korean painting through his exploration of modern literati painting, and six contemporary Korean painters who are actively engaged in artistic practice today. Through the diverse works created from their distinct perspectives on landscape, the exhibition offers a view of the past and present of Korean painting, while exploring how tradition is inherited and reinterpreted in contemporary practice.
